Pair Of Italian Majolica Plates

A delightful pair of Italian polychrome majolica plates. Deeply moulded with central scene of putti playing with a goat. Within extensively modelled borders of swags, rosettes, putti and sun in splendour faces. This image is based on a marble bas relief by François Duquesnoy executed for the Palazza Doria in Rome, 1626. This in turn was inspired by Roman and Greek images. These plates are in superb condition with no fritting and one minor rim crack.
